Brett Cassort Turns 5,000 Miles on the American Road Into His Most Personal Body of Work Yet
New collection debuts at upcoming Reno Tahoe and Los Angeles exhibitions as the artist transforms travel, reflection, and lived experience
LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- For most people, a journey is a chance to relax, disconnect, and enjoy the road. For award-winning artist Brett Cassort, his 5,000-mile trek through six states becomes something else entirely: a moving studio, a source of inspiration, and the catalyst for a new collection debuting at his upcoming Reno Tahoe exhibition September 17–20 before heading to Los Angeles.
Following exhibitions in Austin, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City, Cassort returns with a new collection that takes his work in a bold, more personal direction. Inspired by the landscapes, forgotten towns, railway lines and remnants of history he encountered along the American road, the paintings capture both the places he experienced and the personal transformation taking place within him.
“All those miles between Los Angeles, Austin, Salt Lake City and San Francisco brought an incredible range of landscape and mood, but a few places carved themselves directly into this new collection. The Painted Desert in Arizona, the railways cutting through New Mexico, and the quiet, towering presence of Zion in Utah each carried an ethereal quality that stayed with me,” says Cassort.
The new collection is not simply a visual record of Cassort’s travels. It represents a more vulnerable chapter in his work, one in which he is letting go of control and allowing the paintings to dictate where they go.
“I think the biggest shift is that I’m trying to control the process less and appreciate it more,” says Cassort. “That looseness, that honesty, that willingness to let the painting lead instead of forcing it, that’s what viewers will see in this new body of work. It’s that place where reality and imagination meet, those long miles spent navigating an emotional archaeology that doesn’t show up on a map. This is the most personal I’ve ever been on canvas.”
At the heart of the collection are two themes Cassort says are inseparable in his life and work: resilience and change.
“I’m at a point in my life where I’m acutely aware that time isn’t something you get back. The windshield is much larger than the rearview mirror for a reason, and I try to live by that,” he says.
For Cassort, the philosophy is simple: keep moving, keep challenging himself, and choose growth over familiarity. That steady determination to evolve, he says, is its own kind of victory.
Cassort also hopes viewers bring their own experiences to the work rather than searching for a single interpretation.
“Everyone arrives with their own history, their own questions, their own quiet weight, and the work is meant to give them space for that,” he says. “It’s less about directing them toward a specific meaning and more about creating a moment where their own internal dialogue can surface. Just knowing the work created a small opening, a breath, a recognition, is enough. That’s the connection I hope they find in these paintings: a reflection of their own life, seen through the landscape of mine.”
Cassort will showcase his work at the Reno Tahoe International Art Show, taking place September 17–20, 2026, at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada. Tickets - https://www.rtiashow.com/event-details/rtia-show-2026
