Elizabeth M. Lykins Challenges People to Look Within for the Change They Want

Author and spiritual coach says real transformation begins with stillness, self-awareness, and the courage to become your authentic self

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, September 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- When most people think of change, they start with an outward transformation such as weight loss or new clothes. Yet, that type of change only fosters in temporary satisfaction. Spiritual guide and author of Reflections on Transcendence: Everything You Have Been Searching for Is Already Inside of You, Elizabeth M. Lykins challenges people to consider a different kind of change: the transformation that happens when they stop looking outside themselves for answers and start looking within.

“The inner voice does not scream at you. You have to eliminate the distractions and become still enough to hear it,” says Lykins, who encourages people to step away from the noise around them and pay attention to what is happening inside.

For many people, that noise is constant. Social media feeds can be filled with violence, negativity, conflict, and other influences that affect how people think and feel. Lykins cautions that while someone may scroll past a negative post in seconds, the mind can hold onto that negativity long after the screen is gone.

“Don’t get stuck in negativity,” Lykins says. “You have to be conscious of what you are allowing into your mind.”

Lykins describes herself as a spiritual advisor rather than a religious guide, and she believes there is an important distinction between religious and spiritual wisdom.

“Religion is about following rules. It is about belonging to an organization,” Lykins explains. “Spirituality is about looking within yourself and connecting to your higher power.”

Her message is not about abandoning religion. It is about recognizing that personal growth cannot be outsourced. No organization, person, or outside influence can do the internal work required for someone else to grow.

“Religion will not improve you. The only way you can improve yourself is to work on yourself,” she says.

That philosophy is central to Lykins’ message of living authentically. She says people can spend years trying to fit into relationships, friendships, careers, and environments that do not reflect who they truly are. Taking time for self-reflection can reveal when it is time to make a change.

“The right people will stay and love you. The wrong people will leave. Have courage to be yourself,” Lykins says.

Lykins says there are many levels to transformation once people begin examining their lives from within. One of the most important is recognizing that personal change can require an environmental change, too.

“If you are becoming a new person, your environment needs to reflect the new you,” Lykins says.

She says people do not have to wait for new relationships to magically appear. They can put themselves in environments where meaningful connections are more likely to happen.

Art classes. Music lessons. Local libraries. Community meetups.

“When you start doing the things you like, you start discovering who you are and who is naturally drawn to you,” she says.

Change is inevitable. The real question, Lykins says, is whether people will allow the world around them to determine who they become or take the time to discover who they are and decide for themselves.

“Change is going to happen,” Lykins says. “Look within yourself to find the change that best suits you.”
